
Free the People of WNY Holds Community Meeting on Police Reform, Accountability
Free the People of Western New York held a community discussion at the Belle Center in Buffalo Thursday night to share ideas about police reform and accountability.

Coalition members are primarily organizations and some individual organizers who are working on a campaign or providing services for those impacted by any aspect of the criminal justice system, and aligns with the coalition mission and principles. Others who align with our principles but don’t fall into one of these categories are welcome to work with the coalition in various capacities, but can’t be listed as official members.

Last night, Free the People, Western New York held a meeting in the Belle Center to talk about policing and police. Under an order from Governor Cuomo, Buffalo must appoint a task force to study the Police Department and decide on what changes have to be made to update the agency and see how it handles racial issues.
Last night, Free the People, Western New York held a meeting in the Belle Center to talk about policing and police. Under an order from Governor Cuomo, Buffalo must appoint a task force to study the Police Department and decide on what changes have to be made to update the agency and see how it handles racial issues.
Members of Free the People Western New York met Wednesday in Martin Luther King Jr. Park to discuss what they call “an overwhelming number of people of color” being arrested and given tickets. They also shared ideas on how to improve relations between police and the community.
Flanked by representatives of the Free The People WNY Coalition, Common Council members, members of Buffalo Police Department and two National Football League players, Mayor Byron Brown announced a series of changes in the city’s police policy while vowing that conversations to address social inequity have only just begun.
