Erie County Police Reform Task Force : Public Comment Session

October 26, 2020 @ 5:00 pm - 6:00 pm UTC+0

The Erie County Police Reform Task Force which was appointed by Mark Poloncarz is having their two public hearings required by Governor Cuomo back-to-back next week. Please submit your comments on how Erie County can do better regarding policing! And please share this widely since the hearings are only a few days away! Watch and comment live at Youtube.com/ErieCountyNY
Here are some ideas to get you started:
  • Streamline 911 services to have non-police first responders for all behavioral health calls (that’s mental health and substance use). This would be for crisis and non-crisis 911 calls that involve behavioral health.
  • Take county funding from the Sheriff’s Office and re-direct it into the Mental Health and Public Health departments to meet behavioral health needs in the community, using the health system, not the legal system
  • Ensure the Sheriff’s Office is not collaborating with ICE or other federal immigration enforcement
