Abolitionist Futures: A World Beyond Criminalization & Punishment

October 21, 2020 @ 4:30 pm - 5:30 pm UTC+0

This event centers the work and perspectives of four Muslim activists, lawyers, and thinkers imagining and creating a world beyond criminalization, punishment, and incarceration. Panelists, including RAPP’s Jose Saldana, will discuss the policies, laws, discourses, and everyday practices contributing to a culture of mass criminalization that surveils, policies, impoverishes, and demeans particular communities. In their pursuit to end the current systems of cash bail, prisons, the death penalty, and policing as we know it, panelists will share how they have worked to heal and transform their communities through frameworks of transformative justice, mutual aid, community-led reinvestment, and liberation theology. Register for Zoom here.
